Water floss or die! Hype or reality?

What we know for sure today is that periodontal disease (gum disease) can be directly linked to cancer, heart disease and heart attacks, joint problems, dementia, prostate cancer, diabetes, erectile disfunctions, premature birth.

Treating periodontal disease generally involves a combination of special dental cleaning procedures, medication and surgery performed by a dentist, but above all, routine oral care including brushing and flossing are essential to reverse/prevent the disease.

A special attention should be given to daily water-flossing between your regular hygiene appointments. Water flossing can remove plaque and bacteria from areas that you cannot reach with a string floss or brushing. Flossing is difficult to perform at home and for this reason most patients don’t floss regularly. We started looking for alternatives to flossing and we found Waterpik Water Flosser the best option to replace traditional string flossing. Based on clinical research we can say that water flossing is more effective than string flossing, air flossing, and interdental brushes. The science supported evidence is strong and conclusive: If you want to prevent periodontal disease, or you have braces, implants or crowns, using a water flosser is a must. While you can find many water flossers to choose from, based on performance and clinical trials, we usually recommend Waterpik Water Flosser as the first option to all our patients.

Water-floss or die? It turns out to be relevant question, not a hype! Not long ago, we used to think the same way about ’Stop smoking or die', isn’t it?
